Don't Check Out

Down 8-4 in the bottom of the ninth, the Sooners plated five runs to record their first win this season in 21 chances when trailing after eight innings. The game-tying and the go-ahead runs both scored on wild pitches by OSU’s Jordy Mercer.
I had the privilege of going to this game a week ago with my father-in-law(Roger Sims), who I must thank for the Hideaway Pizza, and my brother-in-law (Nathan Sims), recently engaged to Amanda Hall. The only thing is that around the top of the eigth inning we started getting tired, and thought that the Sooners were completely out of contention. So what did we do? We left early, we checked out. We went home, and in doing so we missed one of the best come-from-behind wins in "Bedlam" history. We missed what could truly be described as a miracle come-from-behind win. We were all suprised when we woke up the next morning, and together agreed that next time we are not leaving no matter how far behind our team gets in the game. I think that sometimes this is how we approach worship. God desires to reveal himself in worship, sometimes even miraculous ways, yet amazingly we miss "it". We see others around us who are getting "it'", but for whatever reason, be it distraction, self-absorption, or passivity we miss "it". We "check out", maybe not physically in the way that we left the game early, but mentally and spiritually. It is God's desire for us to focus the attention of our minds, and the affections of our hearts on who He is, and what He has done in our lives. When we do this, we respond to Him with praise that flows out of a grateful heart.
