We sang this song a couple of weeks ago in worship. A few days before we sang this song Andrea and I were in the car with our 2 year old Joseph on our way to a home meeting for the "Imagine" capital fundraising effort. It had been raining most of the day but not on the part of the Creek Turnpike where we were driving. The sun was beginning to break through the clouds, and I heard Joseph gasp, then he declared with an excitement in his voice "Jesus is coming back, and He's in the clouds." I turned to see the most brillant reds, and oranges in the sky, and the most beautiful white billowing clouds. It truly looked like heaven had opened itself up for us to see. I was remined of this scene later as we sang the words "For his returning we watch and we pray, we will be ready the dawn of that day, we'll join in singing with all the redeemed for Satan is vanquished and Jesus is king!" Just another way that God prepares our heart to worship, and for his returning, through the glory of His creation.
The song Sing to the King was written by Billy James Foote. Billy started leading worship in 1990, right out of college. Back then there wasn’t the demand for traveling worship bands. So Billy played his guitar and led worship by himself until several years later. He added a drummer (Joe McArthur) first and then a bass player (Shawn Skeen) and then Cindy(his wife) joined in with vocals in 2001. Sometime around the year 2000 Billy began having vocal trouble which turned out to be a neurological condition called hyper-disphonia. There's really no cure for this condition. So Cindy began singing more of the lead vocals over time. Though Cindy sings most of the songs, Billy is still the person giving direction to the worship time and, of course, he writes most of the songs the band plays. Billy began song writing in the late 1990's. He's written several well known songs including:"Break Our Hearts", "Goodness and Mercy", "You Are My King (Amazing Love)", "Sing to the King", "I Have a River", "Die the Death", "You Are God Alone (not a god)", "You Are Welcome Here" and "Welcome to the Cross".Learn more about Billy's ministry on his myspace website & ministry website:http://www.myspace.com/billyfooteband
