Here I Am To Worship

Tim Hughes is a Christian worship leader and songwriter with Survivor Records, who is currently Director of Worship at Holy Trinity Brompton, a vibrant Anglican church in central London and heads up Worship Central, a new worship training resource. The son of an Anglican vicar, Hughes grew up in Birmingham and studied History at Sheffield University. Prior to his current post, Hughes worked at Soul Survivor Watford Church, where he was Worship Pastor. Tim Hughes has recorded and released three albums: Here I Am to Worship in 2001, When Silence Falls in 2004 and Holding Nothing Back in 2007. His Dove Award-winning song "Here I Am to Worship" has become a world-renowned worship song for the church. Other well known tracks of his include "Beautiful One"; "Jesus, You Alone"; "Consuming Fire"; and "Whole World in His Hands". Holding Nothing Back, his third album, was released on April 3rd, 2007, and includes songs like "The Highest and the Greatest", "God of Justice", and "Everything".
I recently had the opportunity to spend about 3 hours listening to Tim at a worship conference I attended in Grapevine, TX during the July 4th week. Tim spoke on worship, and about song writing. He has such a humble heart, and is truly seeking to help others worship God. He said that when he was about 15 God put it in his heart to write songs, and lead worship. So for three or four years he wrote, and sang songs in church, but none of his music ever recieved very well. So at the age of 18 he had decided to give up the guitar, and song writing. He said that he was sitting in a conference that had nothing to do with worship, and one of the speakers came up and told him that God was going to use him to write great songs. He said that this inspired him to continue writing, even though he did not want to. It was a few years later that he penned the words to "Here I Am to Worship". Thank God for the encouragement of that conference speaker. Can you imagine if Tim had given up, and given in to the lie of the enemy. We would have never heard what I would consider to be one of the greatest worship songs of the last 10 years.
