We're Marching to Zion mp3
The song We're Marching to Zion has a fun history in that before arriving with it's current title it had not one, not but three former titles. The original verses written by Isaac Watts were entitled "Heavenly Joy On Earth". It reflected the joy of the Christian life, and the hope of eternity. Thirty year later John Wesley included it in a collection with the title "Heaven Begun on Earth" He changed some of the pronouns to make the prose more personal without changing the overall meaning of the hymn. It was shortly after that publication that the story is told of a congregation in New England whose choir in light of a disagreement had decided that they protest by not singing when called upon in the service. Somehow the pastor was notified of the protest and announced the hymn "Come We That Love the Lord" and read it aloud. Then he kindly turned to the choir and asked them to sing the second verse:"Let those refuse to sing who never knew our God, but children of the heavenly king, but children of the heavenly king, may speak their joys abroad, may speak their joys abroad."
